A Holiday Story

Built in 1935, this Spanish Colonial home has been a historic anchor in the West-end of F.Q. Story since it
was originally built.

Because of its age and architectural integrity, the home was one of the early houses from the west-end of Lynwood placed on the National and State Historic Registers when the neighborhood was granted historic status in 1988.

To our knowledge from the verbal history relayed to us from the previous owner and former neighbors since passed on, there have been only three owners of this property in its history. The original owner was an executive of then Central Arizona Light and Power (APS precursor) who had modernist tastes as discovered during a remodel done in the early 2000’s. The tile color and pattern on the front porch being one of those remaining distinctive choices from the end of the Arts and Crafts period in Phoenix.

We have had the honor of updating conveniences while maintaining the structural integrity of the home’s original floorplan configurations and features, like the coved ceilings in the living and dining rooms, functioning fireplace (converted to gas in 2017), even the original Roper “Scientific Cooking” enamel and casted iron oven and stove, which remains the functioning stove for the home!

There have been two significant remodels performed in the house’s history, one in the late 1970’s, when the master bedroom and bath were additions to the back of the house, converting the home from 2-bedroom, 1-bath to 3-bedroom, 2-bath. This was also when the parapet ceiling was created in the kitchen. The second complete remodel was done in the early 2000’s and included both baths and kitchen and the complete build out of the freestanding garage to a studio/office space.
